Match report by Somnath

A party in Grasse. The Srilankan contingent alongside some help from Baldev, Ravi and Co. presented a beautiful day of cricket and party atmosphere at Riviera.

On a nice sunny day, ECC was put to bat by our new skipper Kavi which paid off in the very first over. An unplayable ball from Colin was nicked by Glen that probably was heard even in Beausoleil and umpire Jack (of Halstead fame who was missing the match due to medical reasons) had no hesitation is raising the finger. A perfect start for BCC.

Roshan in his two over spell bowled one decent delivery and managed to get Roshan (Perera) out who looked out of sorts from the very beginning. Chaminda and Andrew halstead had a decent partnership but none of the batsmen were finding it comfortable against some good accurate bowling.

Something got to give and Andrew was the first victim of some superb bowling from Baldev (6-1-16-1). From the other end Kalith was keeping things tight too (5.3-28-1). BCC kept on getting wickets but Chaminda at the other end was determined to not throw it away and managed a well compiled 52.

It was an uncharacteristic patient innings from Chaminda as usually he is a natural stroke maker and likes to go after bowlers. That was to be the reason for his downfall in the end as he played an onside cross batted shot to a Kalith’s delivery that kept low.

ECC innings finished at 31.4 overs with scoreboard reading 123. Sometimes these low targets can cause problems for teams but not today. Despite a disastrous start with both the openers (Somnath and Roshan) back in the hutch within first 5 overs it looked bit iffy. But thanks to Yoges and Baldev who steadied the innings with 27 and 23.

But three wickets in quick succession put some pressure back on BCC. In comes Rajesh and it seemed he only knows one way to bat. Get under the ball and send the opposition on a leather hunt. He scored 21 with a strike rate close to 200%. With Kalith holding the other end it was jut matter of completing the formality to get to 124.

A comprehensive win for BCC and a great day out for both clubs (members and family). Once again thanks to everyone who made the lunch a great success.
