Match report by Captain Somnath

The second game of the weekend. It was a better day weather wise. If thunderstorms couldn’t stop us playing Lyon the day before there is no way a light drizzle could do that. BCC decided to bat first on a day when it was uncertain how weather is going to behave.

Somnath (18) and Roshan (28) added 41 in 6 overs to get a flying start on a pretty decent wicket (but extremely slow outfield like Lyon game) with setting a target of 200+ in 35 overs. Somnath departed while trying to hit one shot too may and Roshan followed trying to increase the pace.

Ballu (26) and Janith (18) got good starts but failed to maintain the run rate with CERN’s two best bowlers bowling at them. Sayan (7-20-1) and skipper Chris (3-7-2) made sure that BCC who were going at 6 an over around 16 over mark were reduced to 106-5 off 22 overs.

At that stage Kavi (30) and Kalith (25) made sure the mini collapse don’t mean a complete collapse (as happened in the past a few times) and were instrumental in getting a score close to the target. BCC finished at 191 off 35 overs.

It may have been a little short of what Somnath was targeting to begin with but is a fighting total none the less. Ravi and Tyron opened well for BCC and after 8 overs (between them) score read 40 odd but no wickets. We dropped three chances, two by Ballu (at deep point) and one by Roshan.

Both the CERN opener’s played well to make full use of the chances they got especially Sayan (74 retired), who was not taking any chances. He just kept on rotating strike and once he was set he started hitting big shots. He paced his innings extremely well.

None of the bowlers could leave any impact on the batting. We barely managed to get two wickets. CERN got to the target in the 29th over.

BCC has to improve their bowling pretty fast if we want to finish the session at a high. Our main success story has been Ubhaynath and for some reason he has lost his swing and hence quite ineffective. Hope he works a little bit on his swing and gets it back. Ballu and Colin has bowled very well lately but in the last two matches Colin seem to have lost his confidence a little bit.

Maybe we can use August for nets and all of us can get their form/confidence/skills back.
