Match report by Captain Somnath

BCC lost to ECC chasing a challenging total of 187. ECC batted first and had a disastrous start as Roshan was out first ball and then Chaminda misjudged the carry and dragged the ball back to his stumps. The score read 23-2 of 5 overs.

It was all downhill for BCC after that. Glen (52) and Jack (75) never looked in much trouble and added 120 runs in 19 overs. The Aussie import for ECC was a class act. This kid can bat. Their excellent batting was helped by our loose bowling (occasionally) and fielding from BCC. Glen was dropped at deep mid-off/long on.

Eventually in the 25th over Yoges (36-3) got Glen out. The rest of the batting could add just 43 runs in the remaining 11 overs and ECC finished at a good total of 187-8 off 35 overs.

BCC needed a good/quick start like we always had when we won in the past. It was not to be this time. Roshan was bowled for 1 and his poor form continuous. He seemed to be under lot of pressure. Hope he starts to play freely because that’s when he is at his best.

Kalith (15) starts building with Yoges (22) but none could force the innings and struggled to get the run rate up. BCC suddenly lost Yoges, Kalith and Baldev (0) within 2 runs (BCC scorecard read 48-4 off 15 overs).

We were going barely at 3-3.5 per over and to make matter worse we have lost our top order. Somnath (20) and Janith (14) tried to force the pace of the innings but perished in quick succession (85-6 off 23 overs).

BCC still going barely at 4 an over Tyron (35) and Kavi (15) did manage to up the scoring rate but when both of them fell in quick succession (137-8 off 32 overs) it was too much for the remaining batsmen to get anywhere close to 187. We got all out for 143 in the 34th over.
